The title is taken from Joy Division's classic 1980 song about doomed love. A nostalgic piece indeed!
Created in collaboration between LIPA and ThickSkin Theatre Company, Love Will Tear Us Apart is a powerful and evocative production that explores the complexities of love across time. Drawing deeply from the cast’s personal experiences, the show weaves together elements of dance, movement, and voice to express raw, intimate reflections on love in its many forms. Through a dynamic and emotionally charged performance, the piece delves into the shifting nature of relationships, longing, and connection, inviting audiences to engage with love not just as a concept, but as a deeply personal and evolving journey. A nostalgic piece indeed!

Venue: The George Harrison Workshop Studio, Liverpool

The set design, constructed from cracked concrete, serves as a physical manifestation of the fractured and fragile nature of love, visually reinforcing the theme of emotional disconnection and vulnerability. A translucent PVC curtain acts as both a boundary and a performance tool, allowing actors to shift in and out of scenes fluidly, hidden from view when needed, while still maintaining an ethereal presence on stage. To support the ever-evolving nature of devised theatre, Isaac and I integrated trapdoors into the stage, allowing for seamless transitions, prop reveals, and costume changes. This flexibility was essential, as new creative elements - props, garments, and scene changes - emerged organically throughout the rehearsal process, requiring a space that could adapt in real time to the piece’s development and to facilitate the creative responses from rehearsals.
